More on Annelies:

I grew up in Saranac Lake a small town in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. I have spent most of my life skiing and running around in the woods with my family and I was lucky enough to grow up in a region that supports and values many Olympic dreams. Most of my teammates on the US Biathlon Team are people that I have known my entire life and have spent countless hours trying to keep up with as a child

I cross-country skied in high school and that is when I was introduced to Biathlon and got hooked! I spent four years out of high school as a Maine Winter Sports Center athlete and racing as a junior. Then I moved on to get my college degree at the University of Utah in International Studies. I loved living out west and it was one of the best decisions of my life because I got to cross-country ski race, finish my education, make really great friends and explore part of the country that was really different from where I grew up. After finishing at the University of Utah, I moved back to the Lake Placid region where I rejoined the Biathlon community.

Now I am living in Saranac Lake with my boyfriend next door to my older sister and her family and across town from my family. I feel very lucky to have so many people in my life while I train to compete at higher levels in biathlon! It has been a fantastic experience with many ups and down and after getting to race at my first World Cups in the 2010/2011 season, I am really fired up to keep pushing it!
