Donte' Mickens was first introduced to goalball at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind. He played on the school-sponsored team throughout middle and high school, leading his team to three consecutive National Youth Championship titles. A graduate of Florida State, Mickens joined the U.S. Paralympics Men's Goalball National Team in 2003. Mickens is a two-time Paralympian, having competed in 2004 in Athens as well as 2008 in Beijing.
In his spare time, Mickens enjoys playing basketball and weightlifting. He currently works as a management analyst.
