MAJOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: 2013 – ParaVolley Pan American Sitting Volleyball Zonal Championships in Edmond, Okla. (gold)… Moscow Open Cup (gold).
PERSONAL: Born Abigail Mueller on June 17, 1997 in Houston, Texas… Parents are Robert and Valerie Mueller… Has one brother, Ben (2001), and one sister, Emma (1999)… Attends Memorial High School in Houston, Texas, where she plays on the varsity volleyball team, and will graduate in 2015… Began playing standing volleyball in 2006 for the Chapelwood Church League, and began playing sitting volleyball in 2013 for the U.S. Women’s Sitting Team… Played club volleyball for Houston Juniors for three years and attributes a lot of her success to that program and coaching staff… Was in a boating accident in July of 2012 that resulted in the amputation of her leg below the knee. “My family and I were in a boat on Lake Kezar in Maine when we hit some shallow rocks not visible from the surface,” Abby said. “I was the only one hurt.” … Loves to ski and has taken up adaptive skiing after her accident, using two outriggers and one ski... Her favorite food is chicken pita quesadillas… Her favorite book is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and her favorite band is OneRepublic… Her favorite professional team is the Houston Texans... She’s involved with YoungLife and her church, Chapelwood United Methodist... The happiest moment in her life was “being able to go to Camp Ozark almost a year after my accident and see all of my friends I only see there.”… She admires, “too many people to describe.” … In regards to her accident Abby says that, “I never thought so much good could come out of such a terrible event. My friends and family have really helped me and it’s so amazing that I get to play volleyball with people in similar situations as me, and I get to travel all over while doing it!”
