The Athletes’ Advisory Council is responsible for broadening communication between the United States Olympic Committee and active athletes, and serves as a source of input and advice to the USOC board of directors. The AAC consists of at least one athlete from each sport in which the United States is represented at the Olympic and Pan American Games, two athletes representing the Paralympic Sport Organizations or NGBs designated to govern a Paralympic sport, and six athletes elected by the AAC to serve at-large, including a chair and two vice chairs.

USOC Board of Directors Seeking AAC Member
The United States Olympic Committee Athletes’ Advisory Council is seeking a qualified candidate to serve on the USOC board of directors (replacing current director Jair Lynch, whose term expires at the end of 2012).
The AAC Board Nomination Committee will review applications, conduct phone interviews and, after a vote by the entire AAC, will recommend two candidates for consideration to the USOC board on Sept. 24, 2012. After interviewing the two candidates, the USOC’s Nominating and Governance Committee will put forward one individual for approval by the board at the December 2012 meeting. If approved, the candidate will become a board member effective January 1, 2013. The term is four years plus an additional four years.
Candidates must have represented the United States in the Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American or Parapan American Games; a world championship; or another event designated as an Operation Gold event within the 10 years preceding election.
Qualified applicants must be persons of the highest personal and professional integrity who will be effective, in conjunction with other members of the board, in collectively serving the long-term interests of the USOC. The successful candidate will be expected to attend all USOC board meetings (four per year), as well as all scheduled AAC meetings (three per year).
