Getting to know the team

A few weeks ago I was asked to help out the U.S. biathlon team as the new press officer. Being German it was of course first kind of a shock. Could I really do that? Could I really manage such a job which of course somehow included speaking English a lot. Well, after all it wasn't a big problem. Spending on year in Boston in 2005/06 turned out to help a lot for that matter. Yet, I am far from perfect but at least I do not have the typical German "ziisss is weryyy nizze" accent. Like coach Patrick Coffey said: "You somehow sound like a French girl." Yeah, that's great. Sounding French is always so romantic...

But it is not about being romantic at all. The first days were all about getting to know the team. Being the editor of a German Biathlon website I already had to get in touch with the U.S. team from time to time but really getting to KNOW them has been a lot of fun.

For all of you out there who do not know these guys: It is an amazing team! Funny, friendly, a bit sarcastic (well, how boring would life be otherwise?)

There are big musicians,  horrible cooks, internet addicts (probably all of them...) and a great team "behind the team". Seven of them being German somehow makes us a German-U.S.-Team but who cares as long as the results are good?

And that's all that matters right now: We are on the route to Vancouver 2010 and so far it really looks good. So I hope you guys out there will give us a chance. Get to know the team, get to know the spirit! There will be official news, there will be background features and a lot more. And for everything "non-official" there will be this blog. There are great stories out there and they are just waiting to be told...
