Laurie Stephens wins bronze medal in super-G
KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia ― Laurie Stephens (Wenham, Mass.) claimed the bronze medal in the women’s super-G sitting at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. Germany’s Anna Schaffelhuber won the event with a time of 1:29.11. Austrian Claudia Loesch finished second with a time of 1:31.20.
"It's amazing,” she said. “I'm really excited. I feel that I could have skied better but I'm happy."
She also won a bronze medal in the downhill Saturday.
Her teammates Alana Nichols (Farmington, N.M.), the reigning Paralympic silver medalist, and Stephani Victor (Park City, Utah) crashed in their runs.
"I didn't see them crash but my coaches are awesome and talked to me about random stuff and it took my mind off it,” Stephens said. “I don't think about it or watch it on TV too often."
