Mar 08 US Short Tracker Leveille Earns Bronze at World Championship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 7, 2008- Gangneung City, Republic of Korea. American Short Track Speedskater Charles Ryan Leveille (TN) earned a Bronze medal in the Men's 1500m event at the Samsung ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Gangneung City, Republic of Korea today. Two Koreans, Song Tyung-Taek, and Lee Ho-Suk earned the Gold and Silver medals respectively. U.S. favorite, Apolo Anton Ohno, (Seattle , WA) skated the race, but was disqualified. The U.S. Ladies team saw 2008 Ladies National Champion, Katherine Reutter, (Champaign, IL) skate to a close 4th place finish in the Ladies 1500m event. She was the only lady on the U.S. team to make it to the final in that distance. The U.S. Ladies Relay team which consisted of Katherine Reutter, Kimberly Derrick, ( Memphis, TN), Lana Gehring, ( Glenview, IL) and Carly Wilson, (Jefferson City, MO) had a 4th place finish in the semi-final round. They were narrowly edged out for making the final round by the Canadian Ladies Team. Racing resumes tomorrow with the Men's and Ladies 500m rounds, and the Men's 5000m Team Pursuit Semi-Final.
