Dec 15 Fredricks and Richardson Capture 500m Distance Titles

MILWAUKEE, WI (December 14, 2011) – The second day of competition at the 2012 U.S. Long Track Championships today featured two 500m events for ladies and men at the Pettit National Ice Center.

 

Overall results were based on combined times for both races – two per men and two per ladies – today.

 

In the first ladies race, Heather Richardson (High Point, N.C.) won posting time of 38.00. Brittany Bowe (Ocala, FL) took second with 38.54, and Lauren  Cholewinski (York, S.C.) placed third with a time of 38.89.

 

Returning from a triple podium World Cup tour, Tucker Fredricks (Janesville, WI) won the first round of the men’s 500m distance with a time of 34.93. Mitch Whitmore (Waukesha, WI) was second at 35.33, and Shani Davis (Chicago, IL) took third with a time of 35.51.

 

Richardson repeated a win in today’s second 500m (37.97), followed again by Bowe skating a personal best 38.48, and Cholewinski in third with 39.03.

 

Fredricks won the second men’s 500m with a time of 34.96, followed by Whitmore posting a personal best 35.18 and Davis and Matt Plummer (St. Louis, MO) tying for third at 35.70.

Racing continues at the Pettit National Ice Center tomorrow with the 1000m ladies and men’s events, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

 

The 2012 U.S. Speedskating will crown Sprint Champions, Allround Champions and overall National Champions for ladies and men, as well as naming the 2011-12 Winter World Cup team. Competition continues through Sunday, December 18th.
