US Speedskating Announces 2012 U.S. World Junior Short Track Championship Team Following Competition

 

WOODBRIDGE, VA (January 29, 2012) - Following three days of exciting competition featuring over 70 of the top U.S. junior (ages 13-19) skaters, Sarah Chen  and John-Henry Krueger were crowned the 2012 U.S. Junior Short Track Champions.

 

Chen, who joined her younger sister Jacqueline on the podium following several races this weekend was pleased with her victory, and the opportunity to compete in the 2012 U.S. World Junior Short Track Championship with her sister. “I'm so proud of my sister for making her first international team,” said Sarah. “Thanks to all the volunteers that did such a great job (on this event) in short period of time. I wouldn't be here without them."

 

Krueger dominated the podium this weekend, and departed immediately following the competition to join the U.S. World Cup team to compete in World Cup 5 in Moscow, Russia next weekend.

 

"It feels good to be at the top level in the U.S. at the Juniors, it’s something to be proud of,” explained Krueger. “I’m looking forward to the World Cup in Moscow, every international experience is different. I must be ready for anything at the Junior World Championships, you can never underestimate any country, the results are always shifting.”

 

Following today’s competition, US Speedskating named the following athletes to represent Team USA at the 2012 U.S. World Junior Short Track Championship in Melbourne, Australia (2/24-26). Congratulations to the following athletes:

"It’s a good looking team, I'm looking forward to the World Championships. These skaters will win their share of medals,” said Bartell. "It was a good weekend of racing, we are expecting good results in Melbourne next month,” added Yeo.
