South Koreans Park, Yun and Joo move to 3rd round
BEIJING (AP) South Korea's top-seeded trio of Park Sung-hyun, Yun Ok-hee and Joo Hyun-jung coasted through the first two rounds of the Olympic women's archery tournament on Tuesday.
Park, Yun and Joo, who took gold in the team competition, entered the individual tournament seeded one, two and three respectively. The three easily got through the first round before Park defeated German Anja Hitzler 112-107 in the second. Yun got past Canadian Marie-Pier Beaudet 114-107 - also tying the Olympic record - and Joo slipped by Italian Natalia Valeeva 110-108.
Park will face 49th-seeded Greek Elpida Romantzi in the next round.
Among Americans, Khatuna Lorig advanced but Jennifer Nichols was ousted in the second round after tying an Olympic record in the first.
Nichols tied the Olympic 12-arrow record with 114 of a possible 120 points in a 114-101 win over Ika Yuliana Rochmawati of Indonesia. Nichols then lost to Nami Hayakawa of Japan 105-103.
Lorig moved on with wins over Virginie Arnold of France and Alison Williamson of Britain.
Fourth-seeded Georgian Khatuna Narimanidze also advanced, as did the fifth seed, North Korean Kwon Un Sil.
Sixth-seeded Taiwanese Yuan Shu-chi did not move on after a 110-105 loss to China's Zhang Juan Juan in the second round.
