BOBSLED: Bobsled and Skeleton World Cup Continues in Koenigssee, Germany
KOENIGSSEE, Germany-Bobsled and skeleton World Cup action will continue in Koenigssee, Germany this week from Friday, Feb. 1 through Sunday, Feb. 3. This weekend's event will include a team competition on Sunday. Each nation will choose an athlete to slide one run in the following disciplines: women's skeleton, men's skeleton, women's bobsled and two-man bobsled. The nation with the lowest combined time will claim gold. The schedule is as follows, with all times listed in EST: Friday, Feb. 1: Women's Skeleton at 4 am; Women's Bobsled at 8 am
Saturday, Feb. 2: Men's Two-Man Bobsled at 4 am; Men's Skeleton at 8 am
Sunday, Feb. 3: Men's Four-Man Bobsled at 4 am; Team Competition at 8:30 am Competing in men's skeleton will be current World Cup leader Eric Bernotas (Avondale, Pa.), defending World Cup Champion Zach Lund (Salt Lake City, Utah), and U.S. National Champion Caleb Smith (Lake Placid, N.Y.). Defending World Cup Champion Katie Uhlaender (Breckenridge, Colo.) currently leads in World Cup points, and will be a gold medal contender this weekend. Courtney Yamada (Boise, Idaho) and 2007 America's Cup Champion Annie O'Shea (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) will also be in the mix. In men's bobsled, defending World Cup Champion Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah), 2002 Olympic bronze medalist Mike Kohn (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), and junior athlete John Napier (Lake Placid, N.Y.) will pilot the three U.S. sleds down the 1,250-meter course. Competing in women's bobsled will be 2006 Olympic silver medalist Shauna Rohbock (Orem, Utah), 2007 World Championship silver medalist in the team competition Erin Pac (Farmington, Conn.), and 2007 America's Cup Champion Jamia Jackson (Lake City, Fla.).
