Bobsled and skeleton team trials schedule changes

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (October 6, 2013)- The Lake Placid, N.Y. bobsled team trials schedule has been modified due to the weather forecast, which includes warm temperatures and rain.

“We are so thankful to Tony Carlino and his team at the Olympic Regional Development Authority for all that they have done to get the track ready this early in the season,” said Mike Kohn, U.S. bobsled assistant coach. “After looking at the weather forecast and speaking with Tony, we agree that we will face challenges maintaining the track for four-man since it is very demanding on the ice.”

Kohn and the coaching staff felt it was best to modify the schedule in order to avoid last minute cancellations and unnecessary stress on the athletes.  The four-man bobsled race in Lake Placid has been withdrawn, and the men’s team will double up four-man races in Park City, Utah instead.  The new schedule for Lake Placid is as follows, with all times listed in ET:

Oct. 12: Women’s and men’s two-man bobsled from 9:30-11:30 am
Oct. 21: Women’s and men’s skeleton from 8:30-11 am
Oct. 22: Women’s and men’s skeleton from 8:30-11 am

The Park City race schedule is as follows, with all times listed in MT:

Oct. 20: Men’s two-man bobsled from 5-7 pm
Oct. 25: Men’s four-man bobsled and women's bobsled from 7-9 pm
Oct. 26: Men’s four-man bobsled from 7-9 pm
Oct. 28: Women’s and men’s skeleton from 7-9 pm
Oct. 29: Women’s and men’s skeleton from 7-9 pm

Race dates and times are subject to change, so please check the USA Bobsled & Skeleton website for regular updates.  A live stream of the events will be broadcast on the website thanks to a collaboration between the U.S. Olympic Committee, West World Media and the U.S. Bobsled & Skeleton Federation, so media, friends, family and fans can track the athletes as they vie for a coveted spot on the national team.

The event is open to the public. Media interested in attending should contact Amanda Bird, USBSF Marketing & Communications Director, at abird@usbsf.com or 518-354-2250 to request credentials.
