Introduction
The National Sprint Development Program of USA Canoe Kayak provides athletes and coaches opportunities to foster optimal preparation and competitive opportunities with the goal of attaining international competitive performances. All athletes within our Club based system are provided with opportunities to achieve their full athletic potential. The National Sprint Development Director working with the Sprint Selection Committee will identify the National Junior and Development Teams based on performance at the 2013 National Team Trials.
In 2013 the National Team Trials will be held in OKC April 26th /27th to select the Junior World Championships Team “discipline pools”, Lake Placid Camp Teams, and Olympic Hopes Regatta Team.
U18 - National Junior Team
U18 athletes competing at the National Team Trials are assigned points based on their results in the Junior single events.
These athletes are nationally ranked in canoe and kayak based on the overall point totals.
In 2013 the Junior World Championships will be held in Welland, Ontario, Canada, August 1st to 4th. Athletes named to the National Junior Team will attend the Lake Placid Camp for canoe and the Oklahoma Camp for kayak and compete in the LPI.
U16 - National Development Team
U16 aged athletes competing at the National Team Trials are assigned points based on their results in the Junior single events.
These athletes are nationally ranked in canoe and kayak based on their overall point totals.
Athletes will be nominated to the Olympic Hopes Regatta – September 13th to 15th, 2013, Racice, Czech Republic – based on their National Team Trials performance – see Selection Criteria on National Junior and Development Program page.
Athletes named to the National Development Team will attend the Lake Placid Camp and compete in the LPI.
