USA Suffer Third Defeat in Tournament

MENDOZA, ARGENTINA – USA suffered their third defeat in a four game series in Mendoza, Argentina tonight against Germany, 3-1. Earlier in the week USA faced a 5-0 loss against Argentina and a 1-0 loss against Australia.

“Another disappointing result,” said Lee Bodimeade, Head Coach. “Another game in which we could not capitalize on our chances, but this is the point that we are at in our preparation.”

Germany was on the board first, six minutes into play, with a reverse chip shot from the top right of the circle. Pam Speuhler (Sudbury, MA) evened the match for USA just two minutes following, also with a reverse chip shot and scoring her first international goal. The match remained tied 1-1 until the twenty-first minute, when Germany took advantage of a penalty corner with a flick into the net. Going into halftime, Germany led the USA 2-1.

USA dominated play in the second half and were able to hold the score 2-1 until the fifty-eighth minute, when Germany scored their second goal off of a penalty corner. The match ended with a victory for Germany, 3-1.

USA will play in their final match of this Four Nations Tournament tomorrow at 7:30pm local CET/5:30pm EST for third place. USA’s opponent is to be determined based on the result of the Argentina verses Australia match this evening.
