VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA – The 2011 Under-16 and Under-14 National Indoor Tournament presented by Yolo Sportswear opened this afternoon at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. An estimated 1,300 athletes playing on 128 teams will fill the Virginia Beach Convention Center over the next three days as they compete in multiple matches in front of hundreds of college coaches, parents and fans. Amongst the many college coaches present looking for future players for their programs, were Boston College, Princeton University, University of Maryland, University of New Hampshire, American University and Old Dominion.
“We are very pleased with the new layout of the courts and have received great feedback from spectators,” said Karen Collins, Director of Event Logistics at USA Field Hockey. “Thank you to the Virginia Beach Convention Center and the City of Virginia Beach Sports Marketing Department for all their support in constructing a new layout for this weekend. We look forward to a fantastic weekend here.”
Over the next three days, athletes and families will fill beach front hotels, eat at raw bars and shop on the strip. Girls enjoyed some sunshine today in between matches as they stepped outside to warm up and enjoy the fresh, salty air. Matches will begin tomorrow, Saturday, March 11 at 7:00am and run through 7:00pm. Over eight hundred field hockey games will be played over the weekend. Pool champions will be determined on Sunday based on number of wins.
