Nov 27 USA Field Hockey announces Board of Directors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Field Hockey today announced the five candidates that will serve on the Board of Directors for the 2013-16 term.

Tina Reinprecht was elected Coach Director on the USA Field Hockey Board of Directors through 2016. Reinprecht was the Head Co-Coach at Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Flourtown, Pennsylvania for seven years. She founded Mystx Field Hockey Club in 1999 and has coached numerous teams to National Pool Championships. Reinprecht is the mother of 2012 Olympians and 2012 NCAA Division I National Champions, Katie and Julia Reinprecht.

“I want an Olympic medal for Team USA and I firmly believe that in order to achieve that lofty goal, USA Field Hockey must have a healthy, robust, head to toe organization with impeccable integrity and honesty that understands the participation pyramid needs foundational strength and stability to support the Olympic podium dream. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and begin paving that road, inch by inch,” said Reinprecht.

Rene Zelkin has been re-elected to serve a second four-year term as the Officials’ Director on the USA Field Hockey Board of Directors. Zelkin has been involved in field hockey for the past 36 years and holds a Level 3 indoor and outdoor rating. Zelkin currently serves on National Federation of High Schools Rules Committee and the Pan American Hockey Federation Umpiring Committee. 

"It is a privilege to represent the umpire members of USA Field Hockey on the Board. I will work diligently to bring umpire concerns forward. I am deeply invested in continuing to work to strengthen USA Field Hockey as a premier national governing body in the USA and a dominant force in the international field hockey world,” said Zelkin.

USA Field Hockey also announced two Athlete representatives. Carrie Lingo, 2008 Olympian and former member and captain of the U.S. Women’s National Team was selected as the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Athlete Advisory Council (AAC) Representative to serve through 2016. Shawn Hindy, a former U.S. Men's National Field Hockey Team member from 1995-2007 and current Assistant Coach at Michigan State University was named the USOC AAC Alternate.

Kathryn Carson was selected to the open Independent Director position. Carson is a highly accomplished lawyer and business leader with extensive experience in marketing, sports and entertainment and leading strategic initiatives. She recently retired from PepsiCo as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel of Pepsi-Cola North America. Carson is an avid recreational athlete and has two children who played a variety of sports growing up, including field hockey.

“I am thrilled to accept appointment to the Board of Directors for USA Field Hockey and look forward to contributing my business and governance experience to this dynamic organization,” said Carson. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve USA Field Hockey members, athletes and affiliates as we work together to promote field hockey in the U.S. and support our athletes in achieving competitive excellence globally.”

The five newly elected Board members will begin their four year term on January 1, 2013. The Board of Directors is made up of 12 members. 

The third Athlete representative and ASO representative on the Board of Directors will be announced next month. 

The USA Field Hockey Annual General Meeting was held on Friday, November 23 at the National Hockey Festival in West Palm Beach, Florida. During the meeting, a question was brought forward about the election protocol. The USA Field Hockey Board of Directors is looking into the protocol issue through the Judicial Committee. The resolution of the question that revolved around announcements and voting rights of lifetime members will be announced in a subsequent Executive Director weekly report.
