For Immediate Release February 17, 2008 Contact: Nicole Jomantas, 719.271.9937 (cell) Nicole.Jomantas@usajudo.us (Colorado Springs, Colo.)-Rick Hawn (Wakefield, Mass. / USA Judo National Team FORCE) placed ninth in the 90kg division on Sunday at the Vienna World Cup in Austria. After losing in his first match to eventual gold medalist Varlam Liparteliani (GEO), Hawn dropped down to the repechage where he beat Marius Labalaukis (LTU) by a penalty. In his next match, Hawn lost to reigning Japanese National Champion Tatsuki Masubuchi to place ninth. Travis Stevens (Glenville, N.Y. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo Center / 81kg) won his first match of the day, defeating Souleymane Ongoiba (MLI) by ippon. In the second round, however, Stevens was defeated by Takashi Ono (JPN), the 2005 World bronze medalist. Ono lost his next match, eliminating Stevens.
