Malloy Nominated Female Sports Star of Year by Seattle Sports Commission
Team USA’s Marti Malloy, 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist in judo and 2013 World Silver Medalist, has been nominated Female Sports Star of the Year for the second time by the Seattle Sports Commission.
Awards will be announced Wednesday, Jan 22, at the 79th annual MTR Western Sports Star of the Year celebration at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle.
Born and raised on Whidbey Island about 30 miles north of Seattle, Malloy began judo early and climbed quickly in competition. She now hails from the USA Judo Training Site at San Jose State University Judo.
Malloy took a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in London and from there solidified her stature as a world-class judo power with a gold medal at the Grand Prix Miami and a silver medal at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. She is now ranked No. 5 in the world in the 57 kg division and targets the gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
While training for the 2012 Olympic Games, Malloy earned a degree in advertising at San Jose State University, graduating on the Dean’s List and serving as team captain for 3 years of the San Jose Judo Team.
