Junior Classification and Point System (Update January 22, 2013)


Criteria for breaking of ties:  In the event there are two or more athletes with identical numbers of points, within the same category of competition, the following protocol shall be utilized to rank such athletes.

Note: Existing ties have already been broken where necessary. We do not break ties where Items 1 – 10 do not apply. We only do Committee tie-breaks if there is a current selection need to do so.

Moving forward, the current standards will be in place until the 2013 edition of each event below occurs and, at that time, that event will become the tie-breaking tool at the level described.

1. Th
e athlete with the most C-Level or higher international points as reflected from the current USA Judo Ranking roster.

2. If
a tie still exists after applying “1”, the highest medalist at the previous US Open event.

3. If
a tie still exists after applying “1” and “2” the most International matches won at the European or Asian A or B Level events within the current calendar year.

4. If
a tie still exists after applying “1”, “2” and “3” the highest medalist at our previous Senior National Championships.

5. If a
tie still exists after applying “1”, “2”, “3” and “4” the result from the most recent head-to-head competition at a C level event or higher.

6. If a tie still exist after applying “1”, “2”, “3”, “4” and “5” the highest medalist at the previous Junior Olympic Nationals.

7. If a tie still exists after applying #’s 1 through 6 above, the highest medalist at the previous Scholastic & Youth Nationals.

8. If a tie still exists after applying #’s 1 through 8 above, the highest medalist at the previous Junior Olympics “International” tournament.

9. If a tie still exists after applying #’s 1 through 8 above, the highest medalist at the previous Junior Olympics “International” tournament.

10. If a tie still exists after applying #’s 1 through 9 above, the highest medalist at the previous Junior US Open.

11. If the above fails to provide criteria for breaking a tie, the Junior Sub-Committee shall be responsible for selection of athletes.
