2009 Figure World Championships Videos
2009 was the third opportunity Michael Stieb has had to attend the Roller Figure Skating World Championships. This year's event was held in Freiburg, Germany. It was a great way to spend his time away from his consulting business following a roller sports discipline. All costs associated with his travels for these three championships were born by Michael with the exception of the media credentials, which were covered by USA Roller Sports. Michael says "I am happy to give back to USA Roller Sports and its members for a lifetime of experience and opportunities."
Each year that he has attended a figure world championship (2006, 2007, and 2009), he has attempted to provide timely and unique information to USA Roller Sports members. This year he utilized our Twitter.com events account* to post Team USA's scores and placements (much to the chagrin of fans from other countries who felt he should post all placements and scores). He also used a camera and tripod provided by USA Roller Sports to record video of Team USA's performances.
In previous years, he used his own video equipment to record video. It was of a lower quality, but did have some advantages. The video files themselves were smaller (90% smaller) and uploaded very quickly. In 2006 and 2007 he could upload a video in less than 10 minutes. This year the venue had a much slower connection than in previous years and his attempts at uploading a single video was a three hour process. This meant that he was unable to upload Team USA performances in a timely fashion as he had done in previous years (within hours in most cases) and instead waited until he returned home to process the videos. After being away for so long, his work had understandably piled up and he was not able to immediately process and edit the videos of which there were over 100. It was not until late March that he was able to master the DVDs of the videos which he sent to USA Roller Sports. In cooperation with USA Roller Sports, Michael is happy to announce that a YouTube.com channel has been created for USA Roller Sports http://www.youtube.com/user/usarollersports
, where all of the videos can be viewed.**
Michael would especially like to thank Carlesa Williams for her guidance and assistance during the three championships he has attended as her media knowledge proved to be indispensible to him and his attempts to accurately cover the events.
USA Roller Sports would like to thank Michael for his continued support (at his own expense) of our organization and in particular his coverage of the World Figure Skating Championships. If you would like to thank Michael personally, you may e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org
. *http://twitter.com/usars_events Posts from the event can still be viewed. The account currently has 437 followers. A Twitter account is not necessary to view the posts. **Due to various issues, not all performances were recorded or posted.
