FIRST MEDAL OF THE 2011 WORLD FIGURE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Junior World Figure Skating Team arrived in Brasilia, Brazil with excitement and awe of what was to unfold at the 56th World Championships. The Junior Team members blended well from the start and got adjusted quickly to the hot, humid, rain everyday weather conditions in Brasilia. The venue is beautiful and the competitive arena skating surface wonderful despite a few leaks from the roof of the arena. After a few days of practice to stretch their legs, they were ready for the games to begin!

The Junior Men and Women Figure events were the first events of the 2011 championships. Michael Cooper earned the first USA medal of the championships and a podium placement winning the bronze medal in the men’s figure event. Collin Moore finished close behind in the 4th place.

The Junior Women’s figure event was next to the competitive arena to complete their third and fourth figures. Both Team USA women figure skaters are first time team members. Emma Trent place 4th and Kayla Rodriguez placed 7th during today’s competition.

Congratulations to all figure competitors and good luck to those who have yet to compete!
