Florida's Moultrie earns USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week
OKLAHOMA CITY — Michelle Moultrie of Jacksonville, Fla., is the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for March 19-25, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced today. The Florida senior batted a staggering .727 through the weekend registering a .750 on-base percentages and a 1.545 slugging percentage.
"It is truly an honor and a blessing to be named USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Week,” said Moultrie. “I want to thank God, my coaches and my teammates for helping me to be the best that I can be."
The outfielder helped lead the No. 4 Gators to a three-game sweep over Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe Arkansas where they outscored the Razorbacks 14-2. Moultrie recorded three doubles and two home runs in Florida's fifth-consecutive sweep over the Razorbacks. Three of her four doubles this season came over the weekend, including two in one game Friday, where she had a season-best and career-tying 4-for-4 performance, becoming just the second Gator this season to have two doubles in a game.
Moultrie had multiple hits in all three games, while scoring runs and accounting for RBI in all three contests as well. She tallied one stolen base and one walk and contributed four total RBI. She now leads Florida with 15 multiple hit games this season and has hit safely in 22 of Florida's 31 games.
"This is a great accomplishment and honor for a great role model and athlete,” said Florida head coach Tim Walton. “Michelle carries our team every day, and this weekend was no exception - she's an invaluable asset to our program. Michelle is everything that you dream of as a player and person to represent the University of Florida and we're thankful to ASA/USA Softball for recognizing her this week."
This marks the second USA Softball Player of the Week award for Moultrie who earned the honor once in the 2011 season for her efforts February 20-27.
