Apr 17 US National Champions Crowned in Huntersville

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - The 2010 U.S. Synchronized Swimming National Championships
concluded today with the finals competition at the Huntersville Family Fitness &
Aquatics. The Walnut Creek Aquanuts (Walnut Creek, Calif.) scored 35 points en route
to the overall high-point national championship title. Stanford University (Palo Alto, Calif.) followed with 27 points while the University of the Incarnate Word (San Antonio) finished in third place with 21 points. The Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio) posted 19 points and the Santa Clara Aquamaids (Santa Clara, Calif.) finished with nine points. Walnut Creek’s Jillian Penner took home the overall individual high-point title.

Santa Clara’s Mary Killman was crowned the 2010 solo national champion with 181.792 points (combination of final free-routine score and technical-routine score), while Ohio State’s Barbara Nesbitt earned the silver medal with a score of 179.958. Penner earned bronze with 178.292 points. In the duet final, Stanford’s Debbie Chen and Taylor Durand finished first with 174.292 points. Walnut Creek’s Penner joined Emily Burkhart (169.625) for second place, while Saki Fujise and Rosilyn Tegart of the Incarnate Word (167.417) finished in third.

Stanford also took the top position in the team final (178.500), followed by
Incarnate Word (176.500) and Walnut Creek (173.333). In the combination final
competition, Ohio State claimed first with 88.250; the Incarnate Word (86.375)
and Walnut Creek (85.000) followed.
