USA SYNCHROS TEAM CAMPAIGN GETS A SIGNIFICANT BOOST FROM LOCAL CLUB
USA Synchro launched its TEAM (“Together Every Athlete Matters”) program two months ago to gather much-needed support to train its National Team athletes and to provide additional resources toward the goal of achieving sustained competitive excellence. When synchronized swimming was introduced at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984, the U.S. emerged as an unbeatable force, and many countries looked to the U.S. to help them develop their programs. Since then, the U.S. has almost always commanded a spot on the podium. Recently, the U.S. has been finding it more difficult to reach the medal stand because several countries have begun breaking away with new training techniques and support for their programs.
The Santa Clara Aquamaids of Santa Clara, Calif., saw this as an opportunity to emerge-- once again-- as a leader in the synchro community. By making a donation of $22,366.60, the Aquamaids are providing funding equivalent to the annual cost to train two National Team athletes. “We hope that by supporting the National Team with this donation, we can preserve the program and allow many more young women the same opportunity and experiences that others have had in the past,” said Jeff Nott, President of the Santa Clara Aquamaids.
