US takes third in team tech at Spanish Winter Open
INDIANAPOLIS – The U.S. national synchronized swimming team finished third in the team technical routine Saturday at the Spanish Winter Open in Sabadell, Spain.
Host Spain took first with 95.0515 points followed by Ukraine (90.8595) and the U.S. (89.1080). Great Britain was fourth with 88.4885 points and Club Synchro Retiro was fifth at 77.3805.
Team USA will compete in the team free routine Sunday.
“Throughout our training the last few days, I have seen great progress, which shined through in their swim today,” U.S. coach Mayu Fujiki said. “We also received positive feedback that we will work toward for the qualifier.”
The U.S. will compete in an Olympic Qualification Tournament in London on April 18- 22 for a chance to qualify for a berth in the team and duet competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games.
The 2012 U.S. Olympic Selection Synchronized Swimming Team includes:
Megan Hansley (New Canaan, Conn.), Mary Killman (McKinney, Texas), Maria Koroleva (Concord, Calif.), Michelle Moore (Tonawanda, N.Y.), Olivia Morgan (Lafayette, Calif.), team captain Leah Pinette (Bristol, Conn.), Caitlin Stewart (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Michelle Theriault (North Hills, Calif.) and Alison Williams (Northridge, Calif.).
Morgan Fuller (Sunnyvale, Calif.) is the alternate.
