INDIANAPOLIS – The U.S. Olympic synchronized swimming duet of Mary Killman (McKinney, Texas) and Mariya Koroleva (Concord, Calif.) will tune up for their first Olympic Games appearance later this summer with two international competitions over the next two weeks.
The duet will compete at the Spanish Open in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, on June 22-24 before heading to Geneva for the Swiss Open on June 28-July 1. Killman and Koroleva's new free routine, which U.S. coach Mayu Fujiki said is more difficult than the one used at the Olympic Qualification Tournament in April, will make its debut.
“The new routine is a big step forward from the routine that we swam before in London,” Fujiki said. “Now we’ve changed the music, the figures are faster, and it’s more difficult at the end. It will be great to have Mary and Mariya swim this routine in Spain and Switzerland so they will build a little more experience with this routine in international competitions.”
Killman and Koroleva will compete at the London Games on Aug. 5-7 at the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre.
