(Beijing, China) - Four years ago, Jun Gao (Gaithersburg, Md.) advanced to the quarter-finals at the 2004 Olympic Games and has hopes of returning there with teammate Chen Wang (New York City, N.Y.) on Thursday at Peking University Gymnasium.

Gao won her first match on Wednesday against Eva Odorova (SVK) and an evening win in the third round against Sayaka Hirano (JPN) would advance Gao to the fourth round against the winner of a Wednesday night match between two-time World medalist Yue Gu Wang SING) and Xue Wu (DOM) at 10 a.m. Should Gao win in the fourth round, she would play in the quarter finals at 7 p.m.

Wang, meanwhile, advanced directly to the third round on the merit of her current world ranking and a win against Krisztina Toth (HUN) during her third-round match Wednesday night would pit Wang against either 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Kyung-Ah Kim (KOR) or two-time World Team Championships bronze medalist Haruna Fukuoka (JPN) at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

On the opposite side of the draw from Gao, a win for Wang on Thursday morning would mean a 6 p.m. quarter-final appearance.
