USA Taekwondo announced today the resignation of Mark Kaufmann, Director of Events for the National Governing Body since 2007. Kaufmann, who is leaving the organization as of May 8th, is pursuing other opportunities within the international taekwondo community, including serving in two roles with the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games from July 16 – August 12.
Kaufmann joined the USA Taekwondo staff in 2005 and served as an events assistant until moving into the role of Director of Events in late 2007. Since that time he has coordinated and planned the annual event schedule for USA Taekwondo, including state championships, national qualifiers, national championships, the U.S. Open, Rocky Mountain Open and numerous national team trials. Under his direction, the annual U.S. Open has grown into one of the most significant international events on the taekwondo calendar and has earned a G-2 rating from the World Taekwondo Federation.
”On behalf of USA Taekwondo, I’d like to thank Mark for his dedicated service to the organization over the course of the last six-plus years,” said USA Taekwondo CEO Eric Parthen. “Mark has been a tireless worker and has constantly pushed himself to improve the overall level of USAT’s events in support of athletes. USAT wishes him much success in the future.”
“It has been my honor to serve the taekwondo community as a USA Taekwondo staff member since 2005,” said Kaufmann. “I enjoyed being part of the USAT staff team and I cherish the experiences and relationships that have grown out of that work. I will forever be thankful to the athletes, coaches, referees, tournament committee and supporters for their encouragement and assistance. I feel the future is very bright for USA Taekwondo and I hope for nothing but the best for USAT and its members.”
USAT High Performance Manager Travis Oosthoek has been promoted to take over the Events Department.
