NORCECA Coaches Appreciate Being at Qualifier

IRVINE, Calif. (Aug. 14, 2009) - Head coaches of the four teams participating in the 2010 World Championships Qualifier for NORCECA Group F all expressed their appreciation for getting to play in the tournament during a press conference on Friday.
Tournament play will begin on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Bren Center on the campus of UC Irvine in Southern California.
"It is a blessing to be here. We have worked really hard to get here and we hope to have a good experience," said Jorge E. Chavez Garoz, who is serving as Guatemala's head coach.
Panama Head Coach Jose A. Remon B. was also happy to be in California.
"We are grateful for the experience and for the attention we are getting," he said. "It's a big deal for Panama to be here. The most important part is to play well and perhaps be a surprise."
Dominican Republic Head Coach Jacinto Campechano de Castro said, "We feel really good about being here. It is the first time the Dominican men's team has participated in a big tournament at this level. We have worked really hard to get here."
Finally, U.S. Head Coach Alan Knipe and his players are looking to use the tournament to help the team to improve.
"We've had a couple of weeks to work on things following World League," he said. "Tomorrow starts another evaluation stage of our summer. Our goal is to play better here than the last time. I know a lot of the guys from this area are also looking forward to playing at home."
