COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 13, 2012) – All the news about U.S. men’s volleyball players in the U.S. and around the world.
FRANCE
U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his French league team Tours, are now 10-0 after defeating Toulouse, which includes U.S. middle blocker Andy Hein (Carol Stream, Ill.), 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 on Dec. 8. Smith scored 13 points on six attacks (66.7 kill percent, .556 hitting efficiency), five blocks and two aces. Hein scored 11 points on nine attacks (64.3 kill percent, .643 hitting efficiency) and two blocks.
AS Cannes, the French league team of U.S. outside hitter Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) and middle blocker Matt Rawson (Los Angeles) defeated Chaumont, 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 15-12 on Dec. 8. Tarr led his team with 22 points on 19 attacks (55.9 kill percent, .529 hitting efficiency) and three blocks. Rawson scored seven points on five kills (62.5 kill percent, .625 hitting efficiency) and two blocks.
U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.) scored 18 points as his French league team Montpellier defeated Tourcoing, 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 18-16 on Dec. 8.
In France’s B league, AS Orange Nassau, including U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and outside hitters Damien Scott (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Eric Vance (Camarillo, Calif.) defeated Lyon, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 on Dec. 8. Vance scored 10 points on eight attacks and two blocks. He was also credited with 14 receptions, 71 percent positive. Scott scored nine points on six kill and three blocks and was credited with 36 receptions, 78 percent positive. Watten was credited with 22 receptions, 77 percent positive.
RUSSIA
U.S. outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, scored 18 points on Dec. 8 as his Russian Super League team Zenit Kazan took down Belogorye Belgorod, 25-22, 20-25, 25-27, 25-15, 15-6. Anderson scored on 17 attacks (54.8 kill percent, .548 hitting efficiency) and one ace. To view photo from the match, click here.
TURKEY
For a second straight week, U.S. outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), a 2004, ’08 and ’12 Olympian, led his Turkish league team Halkbank Ankara to victory. On Dec. 9, Priddy scored 20 points on 13 attacks, a match-high six blocks and one ace as Ankara defeated Ziraat Bankasi Spor K, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-20. Priddy was also credited with 28 receptions, 61 percent positive.
U.S. setter Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.), a 2008 Olympian, helped Arkas Izmir Spor to a 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 18-25, 16-14 win over Galatasaray Erkek on Dec. 9. Hansen scored two points on one kill and one block. He also set his team to a 46.0 kill percent and a .331 hitting efficiency.
U.S. opposite Brook Billings (Santa Barbara, Calif.), a 2004 Olympian, and Istanbul BBSK defeated Greenwich Saat Ted Kolejliler, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16 on Dec. 9. Billings led his team with 16 points on 14 attacks and two blocks.
GERMANY
The Berlin Recycling Volleys, including U.S. outside hitter Scott Touzinsky (St. Louis, Mo.), a 2008 Olympian, and setter Kawika Shoji (Honolulu, Hawaii), defeated TV Rottenburg, 22-25, 25-18, 29-27, 31-29 on Dec. 9. Shoji started all four sets and scored five points on three kills and two blocks. He also set Berlin to a 49.6 kill percent and a .403 hitting efficiency. Touzinsky played as a substitute but did not score.
POLAND
U.S. middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Jastrzębski Węgiel defeated AZS Politechnika Warszawska, 20-25, 25-13, 16-25, 25-11, 15-13 on Dec. 8. Holmes started all five sets and scored 10 points on five kills (83.3 kill percent, .833 hitting efficiency), two blocks and three aces.
U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów fell to PGE Skra Bełchatów, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 on Dec. 8. Lotman started the second and third sets and scored two points on two attacks. To view photos from the match, click here.
PUERTO RICO
In the last two playoff matches in the Puerto Rican league, U.S. opposite Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) and his team Plataneros de Corozal have defeated U.S. opposite David McKienzie (Littleton, Colo.), a 2008 Olympian and Patriotas de Lares.
On Dec. 9, Corozal defeated Lares, 25-22, 25-22, 27-29, 25-23. McKienzie led all scorers with 29 points on a match-high 26 attacks and a match-high three aces. Patak finished with 24 points on 23 kills and one block. On Dec. 11, Corozal beat Lares, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23. McKienzie again led all scorers with 20 points on 18 kills and two aces. Patak scored 16 points on 13 attacks, one block and two aces.

ARGENTINA
U.S. setter Donald Suxho (Korce, Albania), a 2004 and ’12 Olympian, and his Argentina league team Drean Bolívar went 1-1 over the last week. On Dec. 8, Bolívar fell to Sarmiento Santana Textiles 25-22, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-10. Suxho scored three points on two kills and one block and set his team to a 61.5 kill percent and a .577 hitting efficiency. On Dec. 10, Bolívar came back to beat La Unión de Formosa, 25-17, 29-27, 25-21. Suxho scored four points on two attacks and two blocks and set Bolívar to a 68.3 kill percent and a .610 hitting efficiency.
ITALY
In Italy’s Serie A league, U.S. middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Copra Elior Piacenza defeated Andreoli Latina and U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.), 25-23, 25-21, 25-16 on Dec. 9. Holt started all three sets and scored nine points on six attacks (66.7 kill percent, .667 hitting efficiency), two blocks and one ace. Troy started the third set and scored five points on four attacks and one ace. U.S. middle blocker Futi Tavana (Saipipi, Samoa) is on the roster for Piacenza, but did not play.
In Italy’s Serie B league, U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) and Sieco Service Ortona fell to Vero Volley Monza, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16 on Dec. 9. Muagututia led his team with 10 points on eight attacks and two blocks.
CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
In Pool A, Matt Anderson and Zenit Kazan finished pool play undefeated and did not drop a set. On Dec. 5, Kazan defeated Germany’s visiting VfB Friedrichshafen, including U.S. middle blocker Matt Denmark (Edmond, Okla.), 25-20, 25-17, 25-17. Anderson led his team with 15 points on 13 attacks and two aces. U.S. middle blocker David Lee (Alpine, Calif.), a 2008 and ’12 Olympian making his debut with Kazan, added eight points on seven kills and one block. Denmark had one point for Friedrichshafen. On Dec. 12, Kazan beat host Knack Roeselare in Belgium, 25-17, 25-14, 28-26. Lee scored 12 points on five attacks, a match-high four blocks and three aces. Anderson added 11 points on nine kills, one block and one ace. Kazan will play Scott Touzinsky, Kawika Shoji and the Berlin Recycling Volleys in the next round.
In Pool B, the Berlin Recycling Volleys, including Touzinsky and Shoji, lost their final Champions League pool play match on Dec. 12, falling to Jihostroj Ceske Budejovice in Czech Republic, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23. Touzinsky finished with nine points on seven attacks, one block and one ace. Shoji started the first three sets and scored three points on one kill, one block and one ace. He also set Berlin to a 47.6 kill percent and a .417 hitting efficiency. They will play Anderson, Lee and Kazan in the next round.
In Pool C, David Smith and Tours lost their final two pool play matches. On Dec. 5, Tours lost to Trentino Diatec in Italy, 25-23, 25-21, 25-16. Smith finished with five points on four attacks and one block. On Dec. 12, Tours fell to visiting Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle of Poland, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21. Smith started all four sets and scored seven points on four kills and three blocks. Tours will move on to play in the Challenge Round of the CEV Cup where it will face Ukraine’s Lokomotiv Kharkiv.
In Pool D, U.S. outside hitter Jayson Jablonsky (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and ACH Volley Ljubljana won their final two pool play matches. On Dec. 5, ACH Volley Ljubljana beat visiting Lube Banca Marche Macerata of Italy, 25-23, 25-13, 22-25, 25-23. Jablonsky started the fourth set and scored five points on four attacks and one block. On Dec. 12, ACH Volley Ljubljana beat Generali Unterhaching in Germany, 30-28, 25-20, 17-25, 28-26. Jablonsky played as a substitute and scored two points on a kill and a block. Ljubljana will play Italy’s Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo in the next round of the Champions League.
In Pool F, Kevin Hansen and Arkas Izmir Spor won their final two pool play matches. On Dec. 4, Izmir defeated visiting CAI Teruel of Spain, 24-26, 28-26, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12. Hansen scored three points on one kill and two blocks and set his team to a 45.4 kill percent and a .352 hitting efficiency. On Dec. 12, Izmir pull out a 25-26, 28-26, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12 win over host Marek Union-Ivkoni Dupnitsa in Bulgaria. Hansen started the first two sets and did not score. Izmir will face Poland’s PGE Skra Belchatow in the next round of the Champions League.
In Pool G, Paul Lotman and Asseco Resovia Rzeszow won its final pool play match over visiting Arago de Sete of France, 26-24, 25-14, 25-16 on Dec. 12. Lotman played as a substitute in the match and did not score. Resovia Rzeszow will play Italy’s Lube Banca Marche Macerata in the next round of the Champions League.
The next round of the Champions League tournament will be played in January.

CEV CUP
Reid Priddy and Halkbank Ankara will advance in the CEV Cup after defeating Russia’s Iskra Odintsovo in two matches. On Dec. 5, Ankara beat visiting Odintsovo, 26-28, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23. Priddy scored 11 points on nine kills and two blocks. He was also credited with 18 receptions, 61 percent positive. On Dec. 12, Ankara defeated Odintsovo in Russia, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21. Priddy scored 11 points on 10 attacks and one ace. He was also credited with nine receptions, 78 percent positive. Ankara will play Belgium’s Knack Roeselare in the Challenge Round.
Murphy Troy and Andreoli Latina will also advance after defeating Austria’s Posojilnica AICH/DOB twice in the last two matches. On Dec. 6, Latina beat visiting Posojilnica AICH/DOB, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19, 25-19. On Dec. 12, visiting Latina beat the Austrian team, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-13. Troy started the first set and scored three points on two kills and one ace. Latina will play Germany’s Generali Unterhaching in the Challenge Round.
The CEV Cup will continue in January with the Challenge Round, which will bring losing teams from the Champions League into the tournament.

CEV CHALLENGE CUP
Max Holt and Italy’s Copra Elior Piacenza defeated host Estonia’s Selver Tallinn in the round of 16, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 on Dec. 6. Holt scored six points for his team. The teams will play again on Dec. 13 in Italy.
