COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 14, 2012) –The U.S. Women’s
Sitting Volleyball Team faced a rough day in its final two exhibition matches in
Shanghai, falling to both China and Ukraine in three sets.
In its first match of the day Team USA was edged by China, 25-12, 26-24,
25-22.
“The team [USA] started out slow and lethargic,” head coach Bill Hamiter
said. “The U.S. women gained momentum and energy throughout the match but it was
a case of ‘too little too late.’”
Unable to reset, the U.S. Women dropped the match to Ukraine in three
extremely close sets, 25-19, 26-24, 25-23.
“Overall, for the three days I was pleased with the way the team played
several facets of the game,” Hamiter said. “I was also pleased that we were able
to play China since we had not met them since 2010. The team [USA] needed to
become more familiar with them and the staff needed critical data that will help
us in building a match plan for London.”
Next up for the U.S. Women will
be several weeks of training before they head to London in August. Their first
match in pool play will be against China on August 31.
