COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 6, 2012) - USA Volleyball has selected the city of Houston to host the 35th USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships (BJNC) in 2014. The tournament, hosted by the Lone Star Region and Greater Houston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center from June 28 to July 5.

“USA Volleyball looks forward to returning to Houston to conduct a National Championship – in this case the Boys’ Junior National Championships in 2014,” USA Volleyball Senior Director Tom Pingel said. “The State of Texas, and more specifically, the City of Houston, has been a very active host of high-level volleyball events and we know that this will continue when the BJNC comes to town in the summer of 2014.”

“I am proud to have the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships coming to Houston,” Lone Star Region Commissioner Will Vick said. “I encourage everyone to come and enjoy what the city of Houston has to offer. The Greater Houston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has done wonders to build up the downtown area and the George R. Brown Center. There are a lot of activities in the area for both kids and parents to enjoy when not playing. In addition, I appreciate the city of Houston for supporting boys’ volleyball programming in a state that does not have boys’ volleyball at the prep level. This event can go a long way in growing boys’ volleyball in the region.”

The BJNC attracts 400-plus teams and 4,500-plus athletes. The event will have Open Division titles in each age group from 14 to 18, while offering club titles for each age from 12 to 18. The 12 Club and 13 Club divisions will be three-day championships, while all other divisions will be four-day events. Not only is this a tournament to portray talent from all over the country, it is also a chance for college recruiters to find potential players for their programs.

Houston, the biggest city in Texas in a state known for being big, exhibits a diverse culture, culinary, shopping entertainment and luxury. Among the attractions include the Space Center Houston, home to NASA’s Mission Control, and the largest Fine Arts Museum in the Southwest. During the summer months, the Houston Astros take center stage at Minute Maid Park.

The 2013 BJNC will be held at Reno, Nev.
