COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 17, 2012) - Tournament Housing Services Company (THS) visited the USA Volleyball Offices in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sept. 12 to perform the annual USA Volleyball Boys’ and Girls’ Junior National Championships housing lottery.
The lottery, part of USA Volleyball’s (USAV) Stay and Play policy, consists of two tiers for each gender; clubs eligible for tier I booked 200 or more room nights and those in tier II booked 100-199 room nights at either the Boys’ or the Girls’ Junior National Championships in 2012. This year marked the first time that USAV and THS implemented a second tier.
“We decided to add the second tier because we have a lot of clubs who are loyal participants of our tournaments, but they have fewer teams and miss the 200 room night cut off,” USA Volleyball Senior Manager of Events Kristy Cox said. “We wanted to extend the list to give those clubs a chance to book rooms earlier and get a hotel higher-up on their list.”
The purpose of the lottery draw, which can be viewed from the video above, is to randomly select the order that clubs will be able to book their hotel rooms for both the 2013 Boys’ and Girls’ Junior National Championships. The clubs eligible for each specific tier were written on a piece of paper and put in a glass bowl and drawn at random. The boys’ drawing included 24 tier I clubs and 20 tier II clubs, while the girls’ had 36 tier I clubs and 65 tier II clubs.
THS will start contacting the clubs from tier I and tier II in list order for their hotel choices beginning Oct. 10. After being contacted, each club will have 24 hours to respond before THS will move to the next club on the list. Please contact THS if your club contact information is incorrect on the lottery list.
The 2013 edition of the USAV Boys’ Junior National Championships will take place from June 27 to July 4 in Reno, Nev., and the 2013 USAV Girls’ Junior National Championships will take place from June 28 to July 5 in Dallas.
Stay and Play Policy
USA Volleyball will continue the "Stay and Play" policy that was instituted in 2009 for both the 2013 USA Volleyball Girls' and Boys' Junior National Championships. Each team registering for Nationals must make its hotel reservations through THS at an approved USA Volleyball hotel to be eligible to participate in either of the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships. The approved hotel list is generated by USA Volleyball and THS.
Reasons for implementing the Stay and Play policy are to increase the amount of room nights available to teams and clubs and to help police the rates the hotels are offering. By increasing the amount of room nights actually used for the purpose of attending our events, USA Volleyball is able to prove to the host cities our positive impact on their local economy, thus building stronger relationships as well as helping to offset convention center pricing.
THS is and will continue to guarantee the lowest group rates available through continual rate integrity checks (exclusions include single/king bedded rooms, employee rates, government rates, AAA and AARP rates). Rates range widely, starting as low as $79. THS will work with any club or team that may have a special situation (please see Special Situations below). If you still are unsure, or think you have found a better rate, please feel free to call THS.
If you are in a situation listed below, call USA Volleyball and ask for more information on how we can help.
If you are a local team, not in need of hotel rooms, please contact USA Volleyball's Event Department (719-228-6800, specify which event).
THS will go live with hotel registration for both tournaments in January. If your club or team has already made housing arrangements, but they are not with the approved hotels, it is in your best interest to contact THS before then.
