COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 16, 2013) – Pepperdine’s No. 1 pair of Lilla Frederick and Kim Hill finished No. 1 overall at the USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge on Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
Frederick and Hill defeated Florida State’s No. 2 team of Jace Pardon and Marija Milosavljevic in the finals of the Gold Bracket, 21-16, 21-14.
In the Gold Bracket semifinals, Frederick and Hill beat Pepperdine’s No. 2 team of Lara Dykstra and Caitlin Racich, 21-18, 21-17. Pardon and Milosavljevic defeated Nebraska’s No. 2 team of Hayley Thramer and Amber Rolfzen, 21-10, 21-17.
In the final of the Silver Bracket, Pepperdine’s No. 3 team of Kellie Woolever and Kelley Larsen defeated Florida State’s No. 4 team of Sarah Wickstrom and Mallory Kiley, 22-20, 21-16.
Woolever and Larsen advanced with a 21-12, 21-11 semifinal victory over Florida State’s No. 5 team of Stephanie Pelleteri and Kristina Pelleteri. Wickstrom and Kiley beat Pepperdine’s No. 5 team of Victoria Adelheim and Jazmine Orozco in the semifinals, 19-21, 21-17, 15-7.
The USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge will conclude Sunday with a dual meet between Nebraska and Grand Canyon starting at 10 a.m.
USA Volleyball will hold a second Collegiate Challenge on April 21-22 in Hermosa Beach, Calif. The teams scheduled to participate are Pepperdine, Southern California (USC), CSU Long Beach, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, UCLA, Santa Clara and CSU Bakersfield.
