USC's Burnham, Robinson Win Pairs Title

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 5, 2013) – The No. 1 women’s sand volleyball team from the University of Southern California, Kirby Burnham (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Stevi Robinson (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) won the pairs title of the 2013 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship on Sunday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Burnham and Robinson, who were the top seeds in the 16-team pairs bracket, defeated Long Beach States’ No. 1 Caitlin Ledoux (Phelan, Calif.) and Tara Roenicke (Alto Loma, Calif.), seeded No. 2, in the final, 21-19, 21-19.
Ledoux and Roenicke also finished second at the 2012 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship. All four players involved in the finals are part of USA Volleyball’s Beach High Performance Program.
In the semifinals, Burnham and Robinson defeated Georgia State’s Katie Madewell (Kettering, Ohio) and Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), 21-11, 21-16. In the other semifinal, Ledoux and Roenicke beat Florida International’s Jessica Mendoza (Winter Park, Fla.) and Maryna Samoday (Sumy, Ukraine), 21-11, 21-16. Roenicke had 17 digs in the match.
