To HOST a USAW coaching course:

  1. Print a USAW Coaching Course Sanction Form
  2. Complete the form and send it to USAW at least 3 months before the desired course dates.
  3. Desired course dates cannot conflict with any USAW National Events, no exceptions.
    Please check our national events for any date conflicts.
  4. Host facility must have a lecture/classroom area and at least 1 (preferably 2) weightlifting platforms. All course participants will have to physically demonstrate proper lifts, to complete certification.
  5. Facility size – a 10’x 10’ of open, flat and level floor space (and/or platform space) per 4 (or fraction thereof) number of participants (e.g., four  10’ x 10’ areas for 18 participants)
  6. Safety -  Meets all local fire safety standards, such as for safe means of egress, in case of danger. Emergency evacuation plan for any instructor or participant in need of immediate medical attention.
  7. Equipment  -
    • Chairs and table space for each participant for exam taking and any lectures.
    • One Olympic-style weightlifting bar, one 1”wooden dowel or pvc pipe, and at least one set of bumper plates for each 4 participants.
  8. Agency Presence and Exclusivity - A representative of the hosting facility must be available throughout the course and there will be no other event occurring with concurrent with the course, unless there is a clear delineation of venues and programs.
  9. Upon course approval, the following course information should be emailed to usaw@usaweightlifting.org. Course information will be listed on the USAW website under coaching courses:
    • Adjusted course itinerary (a tentative itinerary will be sent with the course confirmation)
    • A list of local hotels and their contact information.

USAW National Office Obligations:

  • We will find an instructor for the course. If no USAW instructors are available for the course date(s) requested, you will be contacted with a potential date change. Availability of alternative dates is suggested.
  • We will handle all registrations, payments and emailing of materials (coaching manual and video).
  • Please keep the following in mind:

    • A course needs at least 5 participants (not including instructors). It is the host facility's responsibility to ensure that the appropriate numbers are reached.
    • Registration is online under the Coaching Calendar Note: Walk-in registrations are not accepted.
    • The registration deadline for a course is five (5) business days before the course.
    • In an effort to maximize attendance, we ask that courses within 250 miles of a currently offered course are no less than 8 weeks apart.
    • Rebate:  The host organization will receive the following rebate after the course:
      • 15 or more participants - $80 per registration (USAW sanctioned club) / $70 per registration (non-USAW sanctioned club) less any rental fee and any amount for instructor travel, meals, and lodging over $350.
      • 10-14 participants - $40 per registration (USAW sanctioned club) / $35 per registration (non-USAW sanctioned club) less any rental fee and any amount for instructor travel, meals, and lodging over $200.
      • 5-9 participants – no payment per registration and host organization absorbs full cost of rental fee and any amount for instructor travel, meals, and lodging.
