Jan 24 King leads Oklahoma City after day one of WCWA Women’s College Nationals in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Top ranked King University holds an 18 point lead over Oklahoma City University after the first day of the WCWA Women’s College Nationals, which began Friday at Missouri Baptist University.

King placed 11 athletes into the semifinal round, while Oklahoma City has eight semifinalist. Defending champion Simon Fraser sits in third place, 15 points behind Oklahoma City, with five in the semifinals.

Six past WCWA champions have advanced to the semifinals, including a pair of three-time WCWA champions, Victoria Anthony of Simon Fraser at 109 and Helen Maroulis of Simon Fraser at 130. Anthony and Maroulis are attempting to be the first four-time women’s college national champions in history.

Other returning WCWA national champions who have reached the semifinals are Emily Webster of Oklahoma City (101), Alli Ragan of King (136), Justina Distasio of Simon Fraser (170) and Jenna McLatchy of Simon Fraser (191).

Rounding out the top five teams after day one are fourth-place Wayland Baptist and fifth-place Lindenwood-St. Charles.

Semifinals are set for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, with finals set for 6:00 p.m.
